ABOUT

We are a Club with great team spirit looking to gain more members this year. We reached a record amount in 2014/15 hitting a total of 87 members, before christmas! We aim to top that this year and get the club thriving the most it has ever done before. Our club is growing each year, last year in particular so why not be apart and see whats to come for us next.

WHAT WE OFFER

SOMETHING NEW & DIFFERENT

In comparison to other sports, safe to say we are fairly different. We are fortunate to have one of the best rivers in the country to row on, The River Dee. This is where the majority of our training takes place, water sessions and land training. So we have something on other Sport clubs at the University, as we aren’t just stuck in a sport hall on a sunny day we are out catching a great lycra tan and getting some great miles done on the river.

GREAT UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE

If you want to grow a love for a sport then we recommend Rowing. An incredible University experience and something you can take with you and remember for a lifetime after you graduate.

GUIDANCE

‘Everyone is in the same boat’ literally and metaphorically. Majority of new members haven’t rowed before. So no need to fret, we have experienced coaches who will get you learning the basics in no time!

However if you have previously rowed we encourage you to join up with us even more. Always good for the senior squads to have new competition and we never have set squads so great chance to seat race for your spot.

FITNESS

We offer competitive and non competitive rowing. There are two training programmes which we have; Recreational and High Performance. With Rowing being one of the top sports for fitness you will be joining the right club. So whether you want to keep fit or get fit, we have something to suit you.

Our high performance programme is a big step up from recreational but we have great squads which come with great encouragement to fit rowing within your timetable and the programme is there to help fit rowing in amongst uni work and other priorities, It can be done! However if you have other commitments and can only make time for the occasional session, we have training scheduled for you too!

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL RACING

We always aim to go bigger and better, so this upcoming year our goal is to hit more of the competitions where the big fish compete. So if you want to be able to say you have races amongst Olympians and world class rowers, then commit to us. We are a growing club with our results growing with us, so get involved and be apart of some incredible racing.

Experience a new level of adrenaline when stand still at the start line of a race and with the club competing over 15 races within a year, there is plenty of opportunities to do so.  We had another record in 2014/15 with the amount of new members we had racing at the beginning of the academic year. So if you hear that you won’t be going straight on the water when you first join, false. You will be the first out with sessions dedicated just for you.

All racing is all paid for within your membership so you wont be out of pocket.  This including camping trips away, which always is a great laugh and a good way to get good training and racing in.

FRIENDS

Our club offers a great chance to make new friends. With the club being one of the few on campus which is mix gendered and one of the Universities largest sport clubs, there is most likely going to be a pal there for you.

TRAINING SESSIONS

Don’t be put off by the early mornings. Yes we do train on some early mornings but they aren’t compulsory but who say’s its a crime to witness a good old sunrise bright and early. We aren’t all about the early mornings, we have training sessions throughout the week, so if you are weak for a sunset too, we could be the perfect match.

Heres a little clip which might sway you from the hearsay.

SOCIALS

With being one of the largest clubs, this makes socials extra fun. Every week expect a big night on the cards. Bar crawls, cheap drinks and great company is a great mix for nights to remember. Each week having a different theme, prepare for early morning lectures with last nights face paint on.

COXING

If rowing is not completely up to your fancy then coxing could be the perfect solution. 'Coxswain', is the proper term, is someone who steers the boat and instructs the crew what to do. A highly valued member of the team, and each squad could not get anywhere without their cox or with great difficulty.

COACHING

We have 4 experienced coaches, so plenty to go around. Each session the coaches will focus on specific techniques and help the crew improve as a team. So learning or perfecting your water or erg technique is what our coaches are here for. Always their for guidance and advice and present club members see them as good friends as well as just coaches.
